A Change

“We are taught you must blame your father, your sisters, your brothers, the school, the teachers - but never blame yourself. It's never your fault. But it's always your fault, because if you wanted to change you're the one who has got to change.” ― Katharine Hepburn, Me: Stories of My Life

Change.  Sometimes it's a word that we hate to hear when it's being forced upon us. It's a word we toss around when things are not so good or life just plain sucks. It's conversation for coffee houses and political campaigns.

To me. I dwell on change. I like to think about what I want to change.  I try to make a plan for these changes.  Often I can start off being really good, but then I fall short of making the change permanent. Exercise routines, eating healthier, study habits, etc. are all things that I can make the short term changes.

A change...  it will do me good I think.  I am eager for fall to mix things up a bit. I'm eagerly awaiting starting up a new hobby or two. I'm looking forward to helping out on the PTO again and having consistency back in my schedule. I'm looking forward to being able to take care of me and enjoy the break of having kiddos back in school.  I'm looking forward to being part of a bible study again. I love the structure that the school year brings and it's a welcome change.

But I know I need to make some really difficult long term changes. Some of them are are not fun. Some of them are like old comfy slippers that have been with me so long that I don't want to toss them aside. But it's about making baby steps and trying to keep moving forward. Somethings just don't go from point A to point B in the nice straight line that we would like. It's more of going up hill, sliding back, stopping, going, running, moon-walking it backwards and somehow, if we are lucky we make it to the point where we are walking where we want to.

Do you like change?  Do you have something you need to change?
