The Voices

There are many voices around us. These voices tell us:
  • What we should be wearing
  • What we should be eating
  • Who we should act like
  • What car we should drive
  • Where we should take our kids to school
  • What kind of parent we should be
  • What kind of spouse we should be
  • What kind of morals we should have
  • Who we should vote for
There are voices all around us telling us what our choices should be.  It seems everyone and anyone has their opinion for you.  Parents, friends, spouses, children, school teachers, principals, caseworkers, therapists, bus drivers, coaches, and let's not forget those over friendly people we meet while out shopping.   My head feels like it is swirling because I'm being told who I should be from so many directions. Is there nothing good in me that I should continue or should everything about me be changed?

The voice that I want to hear, the voice that I long to hear... it's being muffled out by all the other voices and chatter. It's being stifled by the self pity and tears.  Searching for all the answers in but Him who is truth.  Why am I worried and afraid? I'm worried and afraid because I searched out comfort and peace elsewhere.

When I called out to the Lord, opened my bible, I found Psalm 120.

"I call on the Lord in my distress, and He answers me. Save me, O Lord, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues.  What will He do to you, and what more besides, O deceitful tongue?  He will punish you with a warrior's sharp arrows, with burning coals of the broom tree....  Too long have I lived among those who hate peace. I am a man of peace; but when I speak, they are for war."  ~ Psalm 120

Interesting to me, that Psalm 121 starts off "I lift my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.  He will not let your foot slip - He who watches over you will not slumber;"

He watches over me. He will not let me fall. He watches over me.  He will remain at my side.  He watches over me. He will keep me from all harm.

"The Lord will keep you from all harm - He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." - Psalm 121:8

The voice that I've strained to hear. The Voice just waiting to be heard.  That is the only Voice of Truth. The Voice that can give comfort and peace. The power in the name, Jesus.
