Last Wednesday was the first day of school for the kiddos. They were filled with anxiety, nervousness, and excitement. We took the first day of school photos and had a special breakfast. I drove them to school (as we don't have a bus). I was able to take each one to class and help get them settled in. I loved that my Princess took a photo of herself & Smokey (the dog) for her desk at school. Peach was able to bring a photo of two summer memories (one swimming with her friend and the other was her on a horse in Rhinelander). They seemed to slide into their rooms and had amazingly awesome first day at school.
We began to get into the swing of things of the post school schedule. Lucky for us, not everything started up at once. We'll have tae kwon do, tumbling, and soccer. We also have homework every night. This is something new for us, as the twins didn't have really any homework in kindergarten. Peter has been such a great husband, father and partner. He has been helping get the meals cooked, helping the twins with their homework. It's just amazing that we are adjusting with such ease.
Underneath this all, we are trying to keep on "keeping on". We've had a lot of momma drama in the past week. It's been good for me to extend more grace to the kids. Their negative behaviors have increased along with their anxiety. I am doing my best to still be consistent and yet be understanding that they are adjusting to some changes. These children are so resilient.
We had an amazingly restful weekend. The kiddos just were hanging out watching movies on Saturday. Peter and I decided to tear down the ceiling in the basement because they were just behaving so well and chillin'. On Sunday we had the opportunity to go to Pewaukee Lake and visit Peter's good friend who was visiting from out of town. Monday was a blast seeing one of our favorite families. The kiddos love playing with them. We were all joking about us buying the house next door (which is for sale). Then we enjoyed a great afternoon at "Grandma's". Really, who could ask for a better weekend?
Now it's back to school, for another short week. And this family will keep on "keeping on" with whatever curves and hills we come across.
