Some people have lots of luck. They can win prizes. They can come to an obstacle and easily climb over it. They seem to have everyone around them holding them up, supporting them and even catering to them. Some people just have it easier in life.
Not everyone has luck. There are people in the bible that had it. There are others that had none of it, like Job. I feel like our family is one that doesn't have luck. Things don't go easily for us. We haven't gotten where we are because of luck or by chance. Things haven't been been smooth for us at the corners. We gone up hills, had our battles, held our breath and have been waiting very patiently for our redemption.
What we have had is lots of hard work and lots of love to see us through. For three years and nine months, these kiddos have waited for permanency. They still wait. Meanwhile, my husband and me have had 42 months of experience in adovacating for their needs. We have had to fight the battle to get them medical, mental, educational, social supports that they need. We have found positive outlets to support their healing through Tae Kwon Do, Dance, Gymnastics and other athletics. Not through any scholarships, but through our own funds. I have worked hard at documenting visits, behaviors, medical appointments and educational progress. We have gone to countless meetings and court hearings. We have been subjected to monthly/bimonthly home visits from one to three workers. Our financial, medical and mental health has been examined under a microscope. Yet, we still are here. Working hard for our children.
Why do we work so hard? It's simple. It's love. For me, I would rather be working hard and showing my kiddos that hard work is worth it, then just waiting to have luck thrust upon me. Our family is about working hard because WE LOVE.
