When the weight gets lifted...

We all carry weight on our shoulders.  We all have struggles or fears.  We do our best to leave it at Christ's feet, and yet... we take on a pebble here and a pebble there and suddenly we feel like we are being crushed.

I think sometimes the weight of being "perfect" is so great.  What do others think of me?  I must be a horrible wife if I... (fill in the blank)  or I must be an awful mother if I ... (fill in the blank).  I must be a dreadful friend if I ... (fill in the blank).  I must be a lousy employee if I... (fill in the blank).

Maybe we hear the whispers and we buy into it.

Maybe we are telling our own-self that this must be true.

What if we just accept that we are NOT perfect. That we can't be perfect and that things or circumstances will never be perfect. Couldn't that be freeing?

I am not a perfect person.  I mess it up. God gives me grace and it's my prayer that I can give grace to others when they mess up.

It's time for me to put the pebbles, stones and even a few boulders down and stop trying to carry things I wasn't meant to carry.  I pray for the light to shine from within me.  I don't want to be so tired and exhausted that I don't let others see what I want to be living for.

Matthew 5:13-16 (MSG)

Salt and Light

“Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.

“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
