"Wisconsin's elected district attorneys are warning that laying off or furloughing assistant prosecutors, as Gov. Scott Walker's administration has proposed, would be illegal without their consent and would substantially affect community safety." Yes, I would say this affects many of us. The court system is already so burdened by its case loads. For instance, just this week my kiddos case was pushed back SIX weeks because a DA didn't file paperwork. Either the issue here is that it was an oversight, but I would bet that it just didn't get done because of his case load. SIX more weeks that keeps my children in limbo. Not knowing where they are going to end up. It isn't just my family. Foster children in the system wait and wait. They don't get answers because the case loads keep the court backed up. It's affecting the children in such a negative way.
My children are suffering because they do not have a permanency plan (meaning they don't know where they will end up). They cannot process their feelings because they are so young. They have moderate to severe behavioral issues at school because their minds cannot focus on school... their minds are focused if they will return home. They don't want to be "naughty" just to be naughty. They just don't have the self-control because the worries that they have have exhausted them.
I believe that people want everything. But they are unwilling to see both sides. They want a balanced budget. Well, who doesn't. I want that even for my own home. Yes, budgets are about sacrifice. But who should be put into the victim role. These children are already victims. Do we victimize them further by keeping them waiting for the answers that they deserve even longer? Most cases can take 3 to 5 years from when the children are removed from home to adoption. They watch parents try and give up and continue to repeat that process. They hold on to hope that their parents will change, but wanting to just move on with their own lives.
It's no wonder that foster children exit the system and repeat the process over with their own children. They long to feel loved and want to belong to a family. It's the system that keeps them from belonging. They keep them waiting and break that fragile will of their heart.
Yes, politics can be very personal. I hesitate to discuss politics because too many people I know are just one sided. They refuse to even look at the other side and acknowledge where they are coming from. For them, there is only their way. There is no compromise.
